I was completely unprepared—but I couldn’t help but get emotional. Standing there before “Them”, the final painting in the series, I was completely overwhelmed by the sight. The whole series represents an incredible progression of her work in a confident assertion of mastery over her materials. Beautifully paired natural wood grains, mesmerizing chemical reactions of paint and stains, glossy textures and ultimately, graceful and poised abstraction—the wildly expressive paintings are captivating.
The whole show culminated with this:
“Where you’ve nothing else, construct ceremonies of air and breathe upon them.”
LeAnne is an incredible woman, an inspiring mother, and a ridiculously talented artist—and I’m so thankful to call her a friend. LeAnne, her husband George (my husband’s best bud), and their two sons recently moved away, and we’ve definitely missed them. But seeing her work last night brought a sort of ease—knowing that their new home has brought an opportunity for them to thrive and for LeAnne to finally receive the recognition she deserves.
And I couldn’t be more proud.
“Her Lines” will show through the end of November at Medium Studio and Gallery, 803 N Hudson, Oklahoma City, OK.
